Samurai Love Ballad: Mitsunari happy ending

...which was happier than I expected it to be.

It takes something of a divine revelation for Ieyasu to grant mercy and spare Mitsunari's life. Or more exactly it takes something of a divine revelation for Mitsunari to accept it. But this Mitsunari is somewhat religious and grew up in a temple so I'll take it. And it was really what was necessary, because Mitsunari had to come to terms with that he really wasn't what Hideyoshi wanted him to be. If he wasn't the daughter his mother wanted and wasn't the heir that Hideyoshi wanted, the gods of the temple where he was raised were something of a third parent to him and at least Mitsunari can believe that these gods want nothing more of him than to be what he is, whatever that turns out to be.

...I'm just gonna cry for a bit. But it's good.

Back in the first act Mitsunari is unwilling to begin a romantic relationship with the MC (even after she's very clear she wants one) until they are visiting the MC's mother and she shoves them in a room together and tells them she's fine with them being lovers. Anyway, in the happy ending Mitsunari gives up being a samurai, marries the MC and they go live with her mother. Somehow it seems absolutely right that he'd be happiest in a clan lead by a matriarch. He gets a job in a temple teaching young children, which he loves. The very last scene is him with the MC talking about their future child and how he's so happy at being able to bring into the world a child who is truly and completely wanted the way his mother never could.

...still crying...

This has been an emotional roller-coaster, but I'm happy with it.

I was thinking of doing Hideyoshi's route next, because Mitsunari's routes gave me some very strong feelings about him. He's a cute, charismatic charmer who has had one thousand lovers and whose life strategy seems to be to get everyone in the world to fall in love with him and do whatever he wants at any possible cost to themselves. But he is so cute and charming that damnit, I'm compelled, and maybe I wouldn't mind being number one thousand and one.

But, I think I should step back and do one of the main routes first. Either Nobunaga or Mitsuhide.
