Sakura Amidst Chaos is the previous version of SLBP, available on Love365. Previous version is one way of putting it, I suppose another would be 'extremely sloppy rough draft.' But I was bored and needed something to read on the bus and the Mitsuhide route cost like $2 with newbie discounts, so. [personal profile] alias_sqbr warned me that it is extremely bad, and it was in fact extremely bad - the characterization feels incoherent and the romance feels unearned. But if I imagined it as fanfic for the SLBP route, well, there were some interesting moments.

There was a nice fanservice-y scene with Mitsuhide teaching MC calligraphy.

We see Mitsuhide's (historical) skill with guns. I *wish* they had used that in SLBP, since guns are so inconsistent with honor on Nobunaga's route, I wish they had dealt with what it means to Mitsuhide to train with guns and how that relates to his understanding of honor. In SAC, Mitsuhide is a much less straightforwardly honorable person, and we don't really know what's up with him, and the fact that he can kill things from a distance is part of that. At one point Nobunaga and MC are boating and he shoots a bird and has it fall into their boat. Everyone knows that it's Mitsuhide who did it because he's the only one who is a good enough shot. He was under suspicion of betraying Nobunaga and this sent the message clearly, he could kill Nobunaga but he won't.

The actual betrayal is a fakeout, Nobunaga survives and escapes. But Mitsuhide has a bit of a crisis of conscience that he could be thought of as someone who would betray Nobunaga, even though he actually didn't. That's what leads to him becoming a monk. He lives as a monk in a temple belonging to Ieyasu, until eventually he realizes that he needs to be married to MC and that means that he can't completely be a monk. I actually liked this, because I thought the business with Mitsuhide being a monk was a little underwritten in SLBP so I was glad to get a longer version of it.

I'm guessing that some other routes are better, this one seemed one of the less developed. Maybe I'll try the Nobunaga route next time I'm bored and out of things to read.
