A classic update with all my favorite things!
♥ pupdate: Daphne has an appointment for dental surgery on May 28. I was going to ask if I could stay with her while she was sedated (pre-anesthesia) and my vet suggested it first, so yay for the best vet, whom I started seeing when I had Whinnie. (I think she was the third vet I tried, looking for someone who would take me seriously when I said, "this dog is fear aggressive and will bite you harder if you try to muzzle her, can I hold her for you?" This vet was the first person who was like, "okay, let's try it." Mimi was an angel, but now I'm back with another un-handleable rescue and I am always so grateful to people who listen when I tell them things.)
♥ garden news: We went to TWO plant sales over the weekend, one where I got a bunch of sun-hungry plants for the fence and one where I ended up with a bunch of shade-tolerant, rabbit-resistant plants for the front. I planted all of them yesterday, plus the canna bed out back today, and I am actually, not gonna lie, a little sick of gardening. (That should last a few hours. It's supposed to be hot tomorrow, so I watered half the new stuff again tonight in preparation and will try to water the other half tomorrow morning before the sun hits them.)
♥ dollhouse adjacent: I knew I was tired of gardening when rearranging my lego jianghu suddenly seemed like the most fun anyone could have. I moved the
reunion dinner away from the
mountain and put it next to the
fountain garden, filling the space in front of the mountain with dragon boats instead. The reunion dinner scene is 2cm shorter than the fountain garden, so I'm going to try to make a base for it out of some unused bonsai container pieces. (I keep getting bonsai trees for the trees, so I have less use for the containers and platforms, no matter how pretty. "Why aren't there battle packs for trees?")
I also, somewhat belatedly, realized that the "friends" botanical garden appears to contain exactly half the pieces for a complete building, which means that a second set might improve the scene? Reddit and rebrickable say yes, so when I stop spending money on plants I might collect a few more legos.
♥ chinese: Thank you super challenge for making me read more, and thank you DuChinese for making Sun Wukong more interesting than just Journey to the West. (I'm sure someday I'll be like, "yeah, Journey to the West is great!" but so far what I know about it is that a lot of people keep almost or actually dying.) Anyway, Sun Wukong's origin story makes my "flower fruit mountain" lego set make so much more sense, and also it's funny: especially the Grand Nagus moment when he grabs the "book of life and death" from the king of the underworld, reads it, and is like, "You just wrote this yourself, didn't you. And everyone follows it? Well, give me a pen!"
Grand Nagus: "The Rules of Acquisition are more like suggestions. They're written in a book, not carved in stone. And even if they were, who cares? A bunch of us just made them up anyway."
Quark: "Then why are they called rules?"
Grand Nagus: "Would you buy a book called The Suggestions of Acquisition? Rule #239, never be afraid to mislabel a product!"
