SLBP very quick notes on Consummate Moonlight event

Hotaru - Works for Kenshin, but we didn't see him much. I like sweetness and innocence as romance tropes, but 'literally grew up in a box with no human interaction' is a but much for me. The story mostly revolved around Hotaru learning to communicate and I found it too sad to be romantic.

Sakyuka - Works for Nobunaga and Mitsuhide. Nobunaga was losing and Sakuya and MC had to figure out whether or not to defect. Nobunaga is a predictably terrifying employer and Sakuya ended up responsible for assassinating people who defect. Meanwhile his relationship with Mitsuhide was very caring and involved a lot of reading poetry together. Oh also MC used her alchemy skills to make antidepressants. I'm not sure how invested I am in Sakuya himself, but it was a great route.


Hanzo - Works for Ieyasu. The story takes place when Ieyasu is at war with Shingen, which meant I kept yelling at him to stay away from Shingen and his MC, you little creep. Hanzo might be more likable for people who haven't recently done Shingen's route. Or not. The ES is about him being arrogant and mean and refusing to admit that he cares about people, even though he sort of does. You can see why he gets along with Ieyasu.

Meanwhile for my main route I chose Kyoichiro. Two chapters in I'm still not sure if it's a good choice but I'm liking ninja MC.

My general impression of Hotaru from the responses for secret trysts is that he is adorable and a cute friend, but not super romantic.

I'm partway through Sakuya's event route and liking it a lot; he has a good chance of ending up as my favorite, because I am predictable and there is POETRY and ninja angst and reserved/avoidant people who communicate affection in unconventional ways.


ETA: ...OH I HAVE TO ASK, how was Hotaru and Saizo's sister? I've seen her in screenshots and fanfiction where she basically seems to be...pure chaos and hedonism?

You'll probably catch things from Hotaru's route that I didn't, but he said something about being kept locked up and only brought out when his brother and sister needed him for missions. He also seemed very poorly socialized, so he seemed to really mean it. But I might be missing things.

Re: the sister, I didn't find her that memorable unfortunately. But if I replay the route I will keep an eye out for her.

I also like Sakuka's route a lot. Him bonding with Mitsuhide over poetry made me very interested in his main route.

I'm really curious about that family. Saizo never brought them up in his route, but I think the sister is an antagonist sometimes (and maybe has a thing for Yukimura?).

Mitsuhide does need a poetry buddy. I imagine them sitting around having conversations about poetry and philosophy and sharing poems with each other and not talking (except obliquely) about duty and war.

Did you get to the Sakuya route? Or a reread I did notice some blink-and-you'll-miss-it Yuki/Kaede shipping, which I think I am interested in. Also Yuki smacks down MC for trying to use Hotaru while also romancing him, which, ok, point.

I finished Sakuya's route but haven't started Hotaru's yet. Gaming time has been consumed by other things.

The Kaede/Yuki shipping sounds fun! And...point to Yuki, but I also do appreciate not morally infallible MC. <3

How is Kyoichiro's main route going?

I'm liking Kyoichiro a lot! The route has a very different dynamic than any I've seen so far. She goes after him to learn from him how to be a merchant and set up her clan to negotiate with lords on an equal basis and sell their healing skills. So far - in chapter five - MC and Kyoichiro don't seem at all attracted to each other but rather are figuring out how they can use each other's skills for their own goals.

I really like that although MC knows he robs the rich and gives to the needy, MC doesn't at all try to make the case that she (or his clan) needs his help. Rather she figures out what she can offer - her medical and ninja skills - and negotiates with him. He insults her a lot but he also clearly respects her abilities.

Oh my goodness, that sounds so amazing. O.o I love how they're working together and it sounds like it may be setting up for the happiest ending for MC's clan?

And huh, I thought from all the dialogue snippet previews that he would be the flirty one, but I am so much more interested in this route now that I know it's them being partners in (possibly literally) crime.

I'm cheering MC on.
