IkeSen Hideyoshi Dramatic route

waterscrollNot one of my favorites, but very interestingly structured, in that you don't find out what it's about until the second last chapter.
Hideyoshi for most of the route seems very straightforward, and straightforwardly kind. He's good to the MC and cares for her when she's sick and appreciates her sewing and skills. He's had lots of girlfriends but they all break up with him because he's too devoted to Nobunaga. But MC accepts that his loyalty to Nobunaga is part of who he is and loves him for it, they live happily, etc.
And then she gets caught in the wormhole, but instead of going forward to the 21st century she goes forward just a few years, to watch Hideyoshi leading a bloody massacre. She also gets to hear people talking about all the wealth he's seized and how selfishly he's lived. She snaps back to where she was and tells Sasuke the scientist/ninja/history geek/walking exposition monster everything she saw. He says, um, did you learn any history in your 21st century history classes? Because that is exactly what Hideyoshi was like, in actual history.
I like how meta this is and how clearly it states what this game is doing. Hideyoshi isn't like that in this game, but only because this game is AU to history. It's this fantasy of going back in time and meeting terrible people before they become terrible so you can hug them out of it. Which is what MC proceeds to do for Hideyoshi.
I guess this brings out another reason that SLBP Hideyoshi always makes me feel somewhat nauseous, his route (and every ES I've seen) are set before the horrible things that he ends up doing. So you know his character arc is going nowhere good, because unlike IkeSen this isn't set in an AU fluffy universe. Or is it? SLBP isn't always *completely* historically consistent, so you don't know what's going to happen to Hideyoshi, or just how awful he's going to get.

Date: 2020-01-03 03:55 pm (UTC)I'm going to do Sasuke's route next in the hope of getting more of that exposition. I keep being bothered by how un-curious MC seems to be about how things historically unfolded in her own timeline and maybe Sasuke's route will address that.
