I am not super-happy with this route's decision to write MC as dumb as rocks, but it's unfortunately not OOC for Nobunaga's MC. But Nobunaga himself is in fine form and is a lot of fun to watch.

By the time we get to chapter 4 MC is completely convinced that Japan is under threat. Nobunaga is on the other hand convinced that Hideyoshi is doing Some Bullshit, although we're not told exactly what yet. So they are on the way back to Japan to either help Hideyoshi or stop him, and who should they find on the boat they get on but the monkey himself, along with Mitsunari as his bodyguard.

MC: Lord Hideyoshi?! What are you doing in Danming?
I can't keep the shock out of my own voice, especially considering I've heard nothing about him except how busy he must be.
Hideyoshi: It's been a long time, MC. Mitsunari told me everything, you see. I just thought if you two were really going to be coming back to Japan, I should be there to welcome you.
MC: Thank you very much, Lord Hideyoshi. I'm very glad to be able to see you again.
Nobunaga: If all you wanted to do was welcome us, you could have done that well enough from the port in Japan. Deliberately coming all the way to Danming just to turn around and go right back? I didn't know my ass needed this much kissing.
Though I am quick to offer my joy at being able to see Lord Hideyoshi again in person, Lord Nobunaga is not so forthcoming.
Mitsunari: Hideyoshi, an ass-kisser? How dare you speak of him that way after he has come her to see you home personally?
MC: You're glad to see him too, aren't you, Nobu.
Nobunaga: What could possibly make me happy about someone doing something he has no need to be doing? You must have other things you should be up to, Monkey.
Mitsunari: If you need an excuse to listen in silence, I'd be more than happy to give you one...
Hideyoshi: Mitsunari, enough. I'm the one in the wrong here. Forgive me. Ever since Mitsunari told me that he met you, I couldn't stay away...But I have no regrets, even so. This was very important to me.

Hideyoshi gets all teary. Nobunaga isn't impressed. On the boat Hideyoshi tells MC how devastated he was at Nobunaga's death, how at first he didn't believe it but then he did, and then when he heard the rumor Nobunaga is alive he had to come to Danming to see for himself. By the time they get back Nobunaga is still low on patience for Hideyoshi, but once he sees how well things are going in Japan he is hugely impressed with Mitsunari, who was (of course) doing a lot of the hands-on governing while Hideyoshi is doing Shenanigans.

(So glad to see that Mitsunari can make a good ruler! Maybe we'll get an AU act 3 for him one day too, in which he defeats Ieyasu and rules a unified Japan as Saki.)

When they get back Hideyoshi tries to get Nobunaga to come with him to see Mitsuhide, but Nobunaga flat-out refuses, and he and MC go traveling the country together instead. MC notices that the country is quite prosperous but there are still occasional rebellions. (Yeah, that's about how things would go under Mitsuhide, he'd be better at taking care of people than at terrifying them into submission.) At a certain point MC notices that Nobunaga keeps having conversations some places they visit and she isn't invited. She also notices that Nobunaga has been getting even more sexually aggressive, which is how he acts when he's under stress. And at that point she realizes, something is up.

(I don't like how many SLBP routes rely on the LI not telling MC what is happening, I've seen this a few times now and it's kind of annoying. But it does make sense for Nobunaga I guess.)

While wandering the country they run into one of these rebellions. They don't seem to have any particular reason for rebelling beyond general rowdiness. Which, MC notices, is sort of odd. And then they run into Ieyasu, who is bitter and angry and also deeply hurt by Nobunaga's decision to fake his own death. Is he behind the rebellions? Is he stirring them up for some reason?

So I still don't know what is going on, or where this is going. But I do like how this route is proceeding, with Nobunaga slowly figuring out what kind of ruler each person he left behind ends up becoming.

And now I'm going to head over to Love365 and read Hijikata's route on their Shinsengumi game, because I think I need an app that doesn't make me pay by the chapter.

Oh, this is interesting!

I think it actually is making me...root for Nobunaga? He sounds so much more fun as a snarky investigative jerkish underdog who is smart enough to see through the bullshit, instead of trying to conquer the world.

Yes. D: And yes to Nobunaga!MC having so little to do and just kind of...tagging along wondering what's going on. He needs to get better at telling her things, I thought that was what last act was about.

Interesting... I feel like Ieyasu would dislike Mitsuhide, on principle.

And then once Plot gets underway she says something about, this is how things used to be and I don't like it.

Ahh. I guess their relationship problems were fixed by them getting away...so I can see the relationship problems coming back now that Plot.

The promo is so full of bravado that I forgot how much he hated being Nobunaga. :( I wonder if this is all going to end with him leaving everything to Hideyoshi or Ieyasu (somehow...)
